Tips to writing short and catchy headlines

We've all heard the phrase ‘content is king’ and this is certainly true, whether you’re writing copy for a press release or a blog, offering valuable and relevant information will get your brand recognised. Content is fired at us 24/7 so ensuring your message gets heard above the noise is essential. It’s the high quality content that influences our behaviour and gets powerful results for those businesses that deliver it.

Good content is one thing but don’t overlook the headlines. They can appear anywhere and are the essential teasers that reel us in and capture our attention enough to make us want to read more. Think out of the box, quirky is good but make sure your hot headline is followed through in the piece. Disappointing your audience with dull content that doesn’t fit the headline will be an immediate turn off.

Just like a great book title, a headline is the hook that captures the attention of readers. The teaser is similar to the snippet found on the back cover. These pieces not only create the first impression, setting the tone for the words that follow, but they also provide important clues to what the content is about. When a headline isn’t enticing or informative, readers simply move on to the next article that does look interesting.
